Friends of Museum Ostwall have awarded the 8th Museum Ostwall MO art prize ′′Follow me Dada and Fluxus′′ to Lee Mingwei this year. This was not an easy decision for the jury: The Taiwanese-American artist was selected from a total of 8 nominations.

Lee Mingwei's work is characterized by participatory projects where strangers meet and exchange. Based on everyday situations and focusing on personal exchange between the participants, the projects are also a dialogue between the artist and the public, connecting art and life in a very intimate, personal way. Participants shape the work with their involvement and thus become active actors in the artistic process. Zen Buddhist tradition and interest in rituals like common meals align his work with works of Fluxus artists in the museum collection.

Lee Mingwei lives and works in Paris and New York City. He has in recent years presented solo exhibitions at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Centre Pompidou. His survey exhibition ′′Lee Mingwei: Li, Gifts and Rituals′′ is currently on view at Museum Villa Stuck in Munich until September 12, 2021.

The award ceremony and opening of the exhibition is scheduled on November 14, 2021 at Dortmund U.
