Lee Mingwei’s Our Labyrinth has been included in the artsfest Taiwan NOW, on view from Oct. 30 to Nov. 14, 2021, at Intermediatheque in Tokyo!
A trip to Myanmar inspired Lee to create Our Labyrinth. Before entering the temples, shrines, and pagodas in Myanmar, visitors took off their shoes, while volunteers constantly swept the sacred grounds in keeping a pristine space for the visitors. During performances, there will be a dancer sweeping rice along a labyrinthine path of their choosing. They may encounter obstacles along the way, but will navigate these silently and mindfully. This project is a gift from the performers to the visitors, the providing of a "pure" space, both physically and spiritually as they explore the sacred space of the museum.
