JLG Projects
Sam Dienst: Cartoon Logic January 17 - March 8, 2025 JLG Projects presents: Sam Dienst Cartoon Logic an exploration of concepts of materialism and the detritus of everyday life. Sam Dienst layers familiar objects alongside amorphous shapes to fabricate a playful assemblage of color and form. Her vibrant tapestries depict mundane and disparate objects that weave a narrative of daily rituals, perceptions, and experiences. Overlapping elements form painterly compositions of entangled domestic articles, resulting in dynamic, confetti-like clusters that challenge the viewer’s perception of scale. Drawing inspiration from her immediate surroundings, Dienst further manipulates visual language by melding foreground and background, rendering some objects semi-transparent, and occasionally including her name in the fabric. In Cartoon Logic, Dienst’s quasi self-portraits both critique and celebrate the endless cycle of consumption to reflect our interdependent relationship with the material world.
About Sam Dienst
Sam Dienst received her MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art and her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has exhibited at the Museum of Museums, Seattle, WA; Martha’s Gallery, Austin, TX; and Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit, Detroit, MI; among others.
