Ulla-Stina Wikander
Ulla-Stina Wikander (b. 1957, Gothenburg, Sweden) is known for her practice of covering vintage appliances with needlepoint embroidery, repurposing everyday objects into whimsical sculptures. Through a meticulous process of reinventing each piece, Wikander transforms ordinary household items, elevating them into the culturally significant. With a career spanning several decades, her work evokes a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.
Wikander is based between Kullavik and Stockholm, Sweden. She studied at Hovedskous Målarskola in Gothenburg, The School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg, and KV Konstskola Gothenburg. Her work has been exhibited extensively, both in Sweden and internationally. Recent exhibitions have been held at Invisible Dog Art Center, New York; Paradigm Gallery + Studio, Philadelphia; Cokkie Snoei Gallery, Rotterdam; M Contemporary, Sydney; and Design Museum Holon, Tel Aviv. Wikander's work is included in the collections of Halmstad Konstmuseum, Sweden; Celebrity Cruises; and Akzo Nobel Collection, Amsterdam; among others.
